Questions relating to the parish environment – a Guide for residents

The Parish Council owns/maintains a number of areas within Wickersley, for which queries should be directed to the Parish Clerk in the first instance. These are: -

  • Allotments site, Second Lane
  • Community Centre and Library, Bawtry Road
  • Bob Mason Recreation Ground, Sorby Way (including pavilion and football pitches)
  • Wickersley Park Recreation Ground, Warren Road, (including bowling green)
  • Land adjacent to 50 Morthen Road (corner of Sorby Way)
  • Land to North of Saint Albans Church, Church Lane
  • Stephen Shore Memorial Garden, Bawtry Road – next to Masons Arms
  • Wickersley Gorse, Air Mount Close
  • Wickersley Wood, Wood Lane
  • Also, under a license granted more than 30 years ago by RMBC, the parish council planted and have since maintained on public grass verges most of the trees, flower beds, baskets etc. within Wickersley – including the traffic island!

In responding to requests from residents, the underlying principle is that, unless the query relates to one of the items listed above, the Parish Council considers that the majority of requests will therefore fall under the responsibility of Rotherham MBC.

Residents have a choice of whether to direct their query to an RMBC Officer or RMBC Councillor. We advise that, in the first instance, residents should contact an officer and if the query is not respolved satisfactorily, then contact their local borough councillor, perhaps by attending one of their regular monthly surgeries at the Community Centre.

RMBC Officers

  • Streetpride contact centre number – 01709 336003 – recommended number for all queries, as a call reference number is logged with the caller and the centre are set up to refer and follow up matters with the appropriate department

  • Main switchboard – 01709 382121 – for direction to specific department/officer if known

RMBC Borough Councillors

Wickersley is divided into two wards by Bawtry Road. There are three borough councillors representing each ward. Their role is similar at borough level to that of a parish councillor at parish level.

Borough Councillors hold regular monthly surgeries at the Community Centre, and it is recommended that residents are directed to the next available surgery.
